ABOUT ABOUT

Wood-Fired Baking at Montgomery's Inn

Discover bread-baking as it once was, in the historic wood-burning oven at Montgomery’s Inn.

There is nothing like fresh-baked breads and pastries — baking in a wood-burning oven takes it to the next level, with incredible flavours and scents that you can't achieve at home. On Saturday, October 8, we'll explore the plethora of things that can be made in a wood-burning oven at the historical Montgomery’s Inn. Built in 1830, the original inn is now a museum that offers visitors a look back in time through the history of Toronto as well as community programming. The inn’s historical kitchen includes both an indoor and an outdoor wood-burning oven that students will use to bake a full menu of breads, baked goods, pizza and more, using seasonal and specialty ingredients. Work with our expert bread baking instructor to learn about baking in this unique oven that allows you to explore a range of temperatures as well as discover exceptional flavours created in this time-honoured baking method.

In addition, students will have an opportunity to tour the inn — restored to reflect life in the 1850s — with a guide. Discover the life of the innkeepers and guests as you explore the inn’s historic dining room, kitchen, tavern, and rooms.

Join us for this one-of-a-kind experience as we explore the flavours created and methods used to cook and bake in a wood-fired oven.
