As the community around Montgomery's Inn evolves, so does the role of the Inn. In 180 years, it has been a family farm, a tavern, an inn, a family home, a rental farm, a church, and a museum. 40 years ago, it was saved from the wrecker’s ball, restored, and opened as a museum. Two community groups made it happen: the Montgomery Ratepayers and the Etobicoke Historical Society. 20 years later, some of the same volunteers rallied to build the modern addition to the building that houses the library, the Briarly Room, offices, and storage space. The Inn’s roots as a working farm are celebrated by the farmers’ market that started in 2010. In 2011, an outdoor bake oven was built for baking bread for the farmers’ market.
